Role of non-governmental organizations in the conservation and management of saltscapes in Spain-The case of the association of friends of inland salinas
Abstract
Saltscapes require a special kind of appreciation, and their conservation poses challenges for NGOs in Spain. These organizations are divided between those focused on nature and those centered on cultural heritage. Only a few specialize in salt heritage, such as ACASI, founded in 2002, which operates at both national and international levels. ACASI promotes research, outreach, and technical support related to the cultural and natural values of saltscapes. Despite limitations in resources and institutional support, their work aims to preserve saltscapes through education, local activities, and collaboration with key stakeholders. Patience, enthusiasm, and dedication are essential to overcoming these obstacles. .
