This study examines whether oil, natural gas, and derivative prices affect the stock-market performance of transportation companies worldwide. Using Random Matrix Theory techniques and the Onatski test, it analyzes daily data from firms in Passenger Transportation Services and Freight and Logistics Services. Five benchmark prices are assessed: Brent crude oil, natural gas, low-sulphur gasoil, RBOB gasoline, and heating oil. The findings show that none of these energy prices significantly explains the cross-section of transportation stock returns. Although up to four relevant factors are identified at the 90% and 95% confidence levels, including a market-related factor, the tested oil and gas benchmarks are not among them. At the 99% confidence level, no significant factor is generally detected. The study offers a global perspective that may help policymakers, investors, shareholders, and fund managers make better-informed decisions about transportation-sector investments.en-GB
