This paper examines how the use of digital technologies is transforming the health sector, with a particular focus on the role of telemedicine, mobile connectivity, and artificial intelligence in improving healthcare outcomes. The study combines three complementary approaches. First, it presents a literature review on the evolution of digital health from the beginning of the twenty-first century to the present, analyzing the expansion of telemedicine, mobile health, big data, and the emergence of artificial intelligence. Second, it develops a case study about telemedicine implementation at Mutua Universal, a leading Spanish mutual insurance company, based on interviews conducted to two experts on the field. The objective of this section is to examine how telemedicine tools are implemented and how they are perceived by professionals from the healthcare sector. And finally, the paper conducts a cross-country analysis to examine the relationship between Digital Health Maturity and selected health outcomes. A dataset of 137 countries has been used for this analysis and, applying a descriptive analysis together with regression models, the empirical results show that higher Digital Health Maturity is significantly associated with higher life expectancy and lower infant mortality, controlling the internet usage variable. The relationship with maternal mortality is negative but not statistically significant, while the association with tuberculosis incidence is weaker. The case study findings and the analyzed literature reinforce the idea that digital health tools improve efficiency and accessibility of citizens to better health conditions. However, there are important barriers still present, particularly in terms of change management, digital literacy, and professional adoption. Overall, the paper concludes that digital transformation is becoming an important element of modern healthcare systems and its development is positively linked to health system performance.en-GB
