Abstract

This final degree thesis investigates the mechanical behaviour of different Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) geometries. Through compression testing, stress-strain curves of the different geometries will be obtained. This curves will be used to determine the Young’s modulus, maximun strength and deformation of each geometry. Furthermore, different porosities within each geometry will be also tested, allowing conclusions to be drawn regarding the effect of porosity on the mechanical properties of the structure. Additionally, a dimensional analysis of the 3D printed specimens will be conducted to evaluate the error between theorical and actual dimensions. This dimensional study will be performed on both sides of the geometry in order to compare printing errors as a function of the fabrication axes. Throughout this work, experience will be gained in the use of various laboratory equipment and the relevant software required to conduct a study of this nature. Ultimately, this thesis will provide conclusions on how geometry and porosity levels influence the mechanical properties of these structures, identifying which ones hold the best potential for biomedical applications, specifically in the field of bone tissue engineering.
