Power generation based on power-electronic converters requires injecting into the grid a current that complies with the quality limits set by the applicable standards. A wind turbine inverter reconstructs the alternating current by switching at high frequency, which introduces harmonics that must be attenuated before the point of connection. This Bachelor's Thesis addresses the design, simulation, and physical construction of an LCL filter with passive damping for the inverter of a 20 kW wind turbine that the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) will install on its campus, connected to the three-phase grid of 208 V and 60 Hz. After justifying the LCL topology over the L and LC filters, the filter is dimensioned and validated in a complete MATLAB/Simulink model, evaluating the inverter-filter set as a single unit. The adopted damping topology incorporates a series branch of a capacitor and a resistor in parallel with the filter capacitor, which preserves the −60 dB/dec slope and provides the best suppression of high-frequency harmonics without penalizing performance. The design is materialized into a real device, selecting commercial components and quantifying each adaptation through simulation. The injected current keeps a total harmonic distortion well below the 5 % regulatory limit, with negligible damping losses. The assembly is integrated into a metal enclosure suitable for outdoor operation, with a printed circuit board of in-house design and a measurement and safety chain, and its real cost is reconstructed against certified commercial references. The filter is left constructed, integrated, and ready for the future electrical tests at UIUC. The work concludes that the dimensioning of an LCL filter only emerges when the inverter and the filter are optimized jointly.en-GB
