Wine consumption in Spain has fallen by more than 35% over the past three decades, reaching approximately 9.9 million hectolitres in 2024, the lowest level since the 1990s. This paper analyses the causes of this decline from a multifactorial perspective, combining market data, digital content analysis, and an original survey of young consumers. The analysis identifies five key explanatory factors: generational and cultural change, which has broken the natural chain of wine transmission between generations; substitution by alternative beverages, in a market that has never offered such variety; the rise of healthy lifestyles, which has eroded the perception of alcohol as an everyday element; accessibility barriers and shifts in consumption contexts; and structural weaknesses within the wine sector itself, characterised by overproduction, export dependency, and a demanding regulatory framework. The findings show that young people do not reject wine, they simply do not know it: 64% would not know how to choose a wine in a restaurant without help, yet 86% would follow someone on social media who talked about wine in an accessible way. Based on this diagnosis, the paper proposes four concrete strategies: the development of a social application powered by artificial intelligence, the creation of a wine club for young adults, strategic collaborations with other sectors such as sport and music, and investment in non-alcoholic wine lines. The central conclusion is that the wine sector's problem is not one of image, but of distance: the assets are there, but the bridges to reach the new consumer have yet to be built.en-GB
