Abstract

La teología del siglo xx se presenta como un momento decisivo en el que convergen la renovación bíblica, patrística y litúrgica junto con una profunda conciencia histórica. La Introducción subraya que este siglo constituye una herencia imprescindible para el desarrollo de la teología del siglo xxi, que deberá madurar y encarnar creativamente dicho legado. Se destacan cuatro grandes momentos históricos que han marcado la evolución teológica —los siglos IV-V, XII-XIII, XVI y XX— y la importancia de comprender su continuidad. Finalmente, se explica el origen del libro, elaborado por profesores de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas, cuyo propósito es ofrecer una síntesis biográfico-teológica de once figuras clave que puedan iluminar los desafíos actuales y futuros de la teología.

The twentieth century stands out as a decisive period in which biblical, patristic and liturgical renewal converged with a strong historical awareness. The Introduction emphasizes that this century offers an essential legacy for twenty-first-century theology, which must mature and creatively embody its achievements. Four major historical milestones in theological development are highlighted—the fourth–fifth, twelfth–thirteenth, sixteenth and twentieth centuries—and their continuity is examined. The text explains the origin of the volume, written by professors from Universidad Pontificia Comillas, whose aim is to provide a biographical and theological synthesis of eleven key thinkers who can guide present and future theological work.
