Una creu de terme de Valldemossa, atribuïda a l’escultor mallorquí Rafel Torres Palerm (1704)

Abstract

El artículo analiza la creu de terme de la Vila de Dalt de Valldemossa, una escultura monumental de origen medieval reconstruida en diversas ocasiones. A partir de documentación histórica y fuentes inéditas, se estudian sus transformaciones, su contexto histórico y su función simbólica como hito territorial y elemento de devoción popular. La investigación identifica que la pieza actual combina un fuste antiguo con un crucero datado en 1704 y atribuye su autoría al escultor barroco Rafel Torres Palerm. Asimismo, se examinan sus características estilísticas, destacando la singularidad de su columna helicoidal y su relación con modelos renacentistas y barrocos. El trabajo subraya su valor patrimonial y la necesidad de su restauración tras su destrucción en 2019.

The article analyzes the district cross of Vila de Dalt in Valldemossa, a monumental sculpture of medieval origin that has undergone several reconstructions. Based on historical documentation and unpublished sources, it examines its transformations, historical context, and symbolic function as a territorial marker and object of popular devotion. The study identifies that the current piece combines an older shaft with a cross dated 1704 and attributes its authorship to the Baroque sculptor Rafel Torres Palerm. It also explores its stylistic features, highlighting the uniqueness of its helical column and its relationship with Renaissance and Baroque models. The paper emphasizes its heritage value and the need for restoration after its destruction in 2019.
