El manuscrito 10186 de la Biblioteca Nacional de España y la primera traducción castellana de la Comedia de Dante

Abstract

The ms. 10186 of the BNE contains one of the most interesting texts on the cultural panorama of the 15th century Spairl: the first translation irlto Spanish, and, at the same time, into a vemacular, of Dante's Divine Comed}', recovered in 1899 by the philologist Italian Mario Schiff. That this translation is the one that Enrique de Villena claims to have made at the request of the Marquis of Santillana is something that, after more than a century of studies, it is still not possible to prove, vvith many issues that need to be clarified. On the eve of the seventh centenary of Alighieri's death, the gaze tums to a document still capable of raising many questions.

El ms. 10186 de la BNE encierra uno de los textos más interesantes del panorama cultural de la España del Siglo XV: la primera traducción al castellano, y, al mismo tiempo, a una lengua vemácula, de la Comedia de Dante, recuperada en 1899 por el filólogo italiano Mario Schiff. Que dicha traducción sea la que Enrique de Villena afirma haber realizado a petición del marqués de Santillana es algo que, después de más de un siglo de estudios, no es posible demostrar todavía, y son muchas las cuestiones que necesitan ser aclaradas. A las puertas del séptimo centenario de la muerte de Alighieri, se vuelve la mirada hacia un documento todavía capaz de suscitar muchas preguntas.
