The moral obligation of human enhancements, limits and possibilities

Abstract

En este trabajo, queremos responder a tres preguntas de investigación que constituirán las tres partes del artículo. La pregunta principal que queremos responder es: ¿Son las mejoras humanas una obligación moral para la humanidad? Esto plantea la idea de que si está en el poder de los seres humanos el mejorarse a sí mismos, entonces es un deber moral hacerlo. Esta cuestión ya se ha planteado en algunas ocasiones (por ejemplo, Harris, J. 2009). Sin embargo, queremos responderlo atendiendo a las otras dos respuestas que queremos ofrecer. La segunda pregunta de investigación es: ¿a qué renunciará la humanidad con las mejoras humanas? En esta parte, queremos atender el caso contra la libertad que puede implicar el Transhumanismo, e investigar los posibles límites que se deben poner al Transhumanismo en su intento de mejorar la humanidad. Por último, queremos investigar cuáles son los desafíos antropológicos del transhumanismo desde una perspectiva cristiana.

In this paper, we want to respond to three research questions that will constitute the three parts of the article. The main question that we want to respond is: Are human enhancements a moral obligation for humanity? This raises the idea that if it is in the power of humans to enhance themselves, then it is a moral duty to do it. This question has already been raised on some occasions (i.e., Harris, J. 2009). However, we want to respond it attending to the other two responses that we want to give. The second research question is what will humanity leave behind with human enhancements? In this part, we want to attend the case against freedom that Transhumanism can imply, and to research the possible limits that must be placed on Transhumanism in its attempt to improve humanity. Lastly, we want to investigate which are the anthropological challenges of Transhumanism from a Christian perspective.
