Learning Maths and English through stories in 3rd and 4th grade of Primary Education: The MathEnglish innovation Project.

Abstract

El objetivo de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es desarrollar un proyecto de innovación educativa para enseñar matemáticas e inglés de manera interdisciplinar a través de cuentos en el segundo ciclo de Educación Primaria. Para llevarlo a cabo se han seleccionado cuatro cuentos, de diferentes bloques de contenidos del currículo de matemáticas, y a partir de ellos elegimos también los contenidos de inglés y otras asignaturas que se podían abordar a partir de ellos. Todos estos contenidos escogidos de entre los establecidos en el Decreto 61/2022, de 13 de julio, de la Comunidad de Madrid. En el desarrollo del proyecto entran en juego muchas variables, como los docentes y el modelo de codocencia a emplear, la interdisciplinariedad, las diferencias y similitudes entre las didácticas de ambas asignaturas y cómo combinarlas o las diferentes estrategias, metodologías o enfoques que pueden enriquecer el aprendizaje. A lo largo del documento se profundiza teóricamente en todos estos aspectos y en cómo intervienen en el diseño y desarrollo del proyecto. A pesar de que solo se desarrollan en profundidad las intervenciones de dos de los cuentos, todas ellas están pensadas con el mismo objetivo, fomentar el desarrollo de un aprendizaje significativo en los estudiantes. Este proyecto busca demostrar que trabajar estas dos asignaturas de manera interdisciplinar es posible y muy beneficioso para el desarrollo y el aprendizaje del alumno y que, a través de los cuentos, los niños disfrutan más del proceso de aprendizaje de las matemáticas y el inglés.

The objective of this Final Degree Project is to develop an education innovation proposal to teach Mathematics and English in an interdisciplinary way through stories in 3rd and 4th grade of Primary Education. To carry it out, four stories were selected, each one for different Mathematics content blocks, and from them we chose contents of English and other subjects that could be taught too. All these contents were extracted from among those established in Decree 61/2022, de 13 de Julio, from the Community of Madrid. Many factors come into play in the development of the project, such as the teacher and the co-teaching model to be used, interdisciplinarity differences and similarities between the didactics of both subjects and how to combine them or the different strategies, methodologies and approaches that can enrich learning. Throughout the document, all these aspects and how they are involved in the design and development of the project are explored theoretically. Although only two of the stories’ interventions are developed in depth, they are all designed with the same objective, to encourage and foster the development of meaningful learning in students. This project seeks to demonstrate that working on these two subjects in an interdisciplinary way is possible and very beneficial for the development and learning of pupils and that, through stories, children enjoy the process of learning Maths and English more.
